Advanced Passive Voice
**Basic passive:** Subject + be + past participle
Active: They **build** many IT parks in many countries.
Passive: Many IT parks **are built** in many countries.
**Passive with modals:**
- can/could/should/must + be + past participle
- The project **must be completed** by Friday.
- The report **should be submitted** online.
**Passive with continuous:**
- is/was being + past participle
- A new metro line **is being constructed** in Toronto.
- The road **was being repaired** when we arrived.
**Passive with perfect:**
- has/had been + past participle
- The results **have been announced** by the university.
- The tickets **had been sold out** before we arrived.
**Passive with reporting verbs:**
- It is said/believed/reported/known that...
- It **is believed** that the company will expand.
- She **is known** to be an excellent coder.
Examples
A new airport is being built near Noida.
It is believed that local IT will continue to grow.
💡 Use passive when the action matters more than who does it: "The Taj Mahal was built in 1632" — we focus on the monument, not the workers.
