Passive Voice
**Active Voice:** Subject does the action → The chef cooks the food.
**Passive Voice:** Action is done to the subject → The food is cooked (by the chef).
**When to use passive:**
- When WHO did it is unknown or unimportant
- In formal writing, news reports, and official notices
**Structure:** Subject + be + past participle (+ by agent)
**Tense examples:**
- Present: Rice **is grown** in many countries.
- Past: The Taj Mahal **was built** by Shah Jahan.
- Future: The results **will be announced** tomorrow.
- Present Perfect: The homework **has been submitted**.
Examples
Hindi is spoken by millions of people.
The bridge was damaged by the flood.
💡 Don't overuse passive voice. Active voice is usually clearer and more direct.
