Adverbs: How, When, Where, How Often
Adverbs describe HOW, WHEN, WHERE, or HOW OFTEN something happens.
**Manner (how?):** Add **-ly** to adjective
- slow → slowly, quick → quickly, careful → carefully
- She speaks English **fluently**.
- He drives **carefully** in the rain.
**Frequency (how often?):** Position = before main verb, after "be"
- always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never
- I **always** drink coffee in the morning.
- She is **never** late for work.
**Time (when?):** today, yesterday, tomorrow, soon, already, yet, still
**Place (where?):** here, there, everywhere, outside, upstairs
**Irregular adverbs (no -ly!):**
- good → **well** (NOT goodly!)
- fast → **fast** (NOT fastly!)
- hard → **hard** (hardly = barely, different meaning!)
Examples
She speaks Hindi fluently but writes English slowly.
I usually take the 8 AM train.
💡 "He played good" is wrong! "Good" is an adjective. Say "He played well." Good describes nouns, well describes verbs.
