Comparatives and Superlatives
**Comparatives** compare TWO things. **Superlatives** say something is the MOST.
**Short adjectives (1-2 syllables):**
- Comparative: add **-er** → tall → taller, fast → faster
- Superlative: add **-est** → tall → the tallest, fast → the fastest
**Long adjectives (3+ syllables):**
- Comparative: **more** + adjective → more beautiful, more expensive
- Superlative: **the most** + adjective → the most beautiful
**Irregular:**
- good → better → the best
- bad → worse → the worst
- far → farther → the farthest
**Key patterns:**
- A is **___er than** B: Sydney is bigger than Melbourne.
- A is **more ___ than** B: London is more polluted than Zurich.
- A is **the ___est** of all: Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world.
Examples
The Ganges is longer than the Yamuna.
Toronto has the best weather in many countries.
This phone is more expensive than that one.
💡 Never say "more better" or "most tallest"! Use either -er/-est OR more/most — never both together.
